About

This tour covers Venice's two absolute "must-visit" places: Saint Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace. Over the course of three hours we'll explore Saint Mark's square, go inside the Basilica, and then make our way over to the Doge's Palace for a tour of its interior.

We start off in Piazza San Marco, admiring what is indisputably one of the world's grandest and most beautiful squares. We'll chat about the history and architecture and then head over to the Doge's Palace.

Inside the Doge's Palace we'll wander the countless rooms and learn about the history of the Venetian Republic and the mighty Doges. We'll chat about palace intrigue, art, and the development of Venice as a republic and a city. We normally spend 1.5-2 hours inside the palace.

From the palace, we head back to Saint Mark's square and into the Basilica. Inside, we'll do the "floor" visit, meaning we don't visit the loggia, Pala d'Oro, or other special areas. The visit normally takes 30-45 minutes. If you'd like to visit additional areas, let me know and we can discuss options.

If we have time at the end of the tour, we'll go for a quick walk over to the Rialto area where we'll enjoy a classic Venetian view from atop the Rialto Bridge.
