Giorgio is our resident driver-guide in Palermo and Western Sicily. He's one of only a handful of guides in Sicily who are fully licensed as both a local guide and a driver. Unicorns do exist after all!
With a special focus on the history, culture, and folklore of his island, Giorgio has spent the better part of two decades helping visitors get truly under the skin of Sicily. He runs tours all over the island, including multi-day and weeklong trips.
If you're coming to Sicily for a sort of "heritage tour" to see where your ancestors were from, he also knows all the ins and outs of visiting town halls, record searches, and more.
Please note: Giorgio is a tour operator and has a small team of great guides who work with him. Even if he isn't personally available, he can usually have one of them cover for him.

Greetings from Sicily! My name is Giorgio and I'm a local guide and travel planner based in sunny Palermo!
I deeply love my country and my island, so I have always tried to instill this love in my fellow travelers. As a guide, my first aim is to help travelers get beyond stereotypes regarding Sicily and to show how rich the Sicilian culture is - thanks to the many people that have passed through over the centuries, leaving signs of their own societies. You can find those traces in our monumental heritage but also in our language, in our habits, and finally in our cuisine.
I have been working in tourism in Sicily for the last 20 years, first as a tour leader, then a tour operator, and now for almost 15 years as a guide and travel agent. Over those many years, I also took a degree in Cultural tourism at the University of Palermo, deepening my understanding of our history, art, archaeology, and Sicilian folklore.
I have a deep knowledge of both the main and less visited Sicilian sites, and I am always on the hunt to find new hidden gems to show to my guests. When I am not touring Sicily with travellers, I am exploring the island with my friends!
Thanks to my fully licensed minivan I can take my guests everywhere in Sicily, visiting beautiful cities or admiring natural beauties, both for quick day trips and for multi-day and multi-week trips all over the island.
I especially enjoy ancestral tours, so if your roots are in Sicily I will help you find them! Together, we can visit your ancestral hometowns and even look for family records at local offices, churches, cemeteries etc.
No matter what you're looking for in Sicily, it will be my pleasure to help you find it.

We have done a private 10 day Sicily tour with Giorgio Calo. The focus was archeology, wine and nature. Everything was planned great, never in a rush but always on time. And even more importantly we had a lot of flexibility to do some changes to the plan when we wanted to. Sicily is a big island but Giorgio knows the eastern part just as good as his home western part. That is important because there is a lot to see everywhere in Sicily.

Giorgio organized a fantastic tour of Segesta, Erice and the Trapani salt pans for my family. We departed from Palermo. Along the route to Segesta, Giorgio pointed out various areas of interest including different types of agricultural land, old rail lines, and the various towns we passed through. Once in Segesta, we went up to the acropolis and Greek Theater. The view was breathtaking, and Georgio pointed out different landmarks visible from the mountaintop. We explored several of the excavated building sites and the theater before moving down the hill to the reconstructed temple itself. From Segesta we headed to Erice, where we took in various vistas, notable buildings, and sampled delicious local food. We also saw a bit of the Easter Passion procession through town, which was a definite highlight. We went on to view the salt pans outside of Trapani before heading to Montelepre, our final destination. Our tour with Giorgio was a highlight of our trip to Sicily! We appreciated that he was so accomodating in personalizing the tour to meet our needs.

Had a great day at the Valley of the Temples with Giorgio. He was a wealth of information and very helpful with suggestions on activities we should do on our own. Giorgio’s attention to detail and explanation of the various temples was fantastic. It was well worth the visit and would recommend the trip to anyone interested in learning more about the history of Sicily.
