For two decades Gaetano has spent the better part of every year as a tour leader for a host of American, Canadian, and New Zealand travel companies. He guides all over Sicily, the Amalfi Coast, and most of Southern Italy.
An art, history, and culture buff, Gaetano’s tours are imbued with fascinating details and insight that will help you better understand this ancient island and the civilizations that have molded it.
Gaetano’s private tours are mostly in Palermo and Western Sicily, but he also does multi-day tours all over the island.

Ciao! I’m delighted that you’re coming to visit my area of Italy and I would be delighted to explore it with you.
I’m originally from inland Sicily, but went to university in Catania and have been living in Palermo from 2003. For 23 years I’ve been running cultural tours, food & wine focused trips, outdoor excursions, tours for clients looking to reconnect with their family roots, and just about everything else you can imagine.
There really is so much you can do here - gorgeous beaches, everything from tiny mountain villages to busy cities like Palermo and Catania, fantastic art and culture, wonderful wine, terrific food, and of course great people.
No matter what your interests are, I'd like to think that I can organize a tour perfectly tailored to them, and it would be my pleasure to show you my island.

The 2 weeks my family spent in Sardinia and Sicily would not have been as incredible as they were without SIMONE SCALAS in Sardinia, GIACOMO MAZZA in Sicily and GAETANO in Palermo. Also, a shout out to GIORGIO CALO for planning the Sicily trip and finding us Giacomo as he was already committed during our time frame. My husband and 3 grown daughters truly made priceless memories that we will reminisce on for decades. We only had Gaetano for half day tour because a daughter was flying out, but he covered so much in such a little time. He gave us a wonderful taste of Palermo- history, architecture, food- showing his knowledge but more importantly his love for his city.

We recently had a tour of Palermo with Gaetano. We have been to Palermo a few times already on previous trips as my parents live in a nearby town. We have explored Palermo and have seen some sites on our own. However, I wanted a bit of a deeper understanding of the city, how the culture developed from the Arabs to modern times, focusing in history and architecture. Gaetano planned something a little uniqie for our 4hr walking tour. It was myself, my mother who is mid 60s, amd my 16yr old daughter who has been to Sicily and Italy she is no longer impressed with anything My cousin who is in his early 30s joined us. He was born and raised in the area and was fascinated because he knew basically nothing of the old history and he lives in Palermo. Gaetano was awesome from the start, giving suggestions for parking them walking to get us where we parked. He started us at the Norman Palace which he but knew EVERYTHING about it. We walked to many sites as he pointed out architecture and told stories about small things along the way. We asked a lot of questions as we already knew quite a bit about the history of the city from reading many books on Sicily over the years, but he always had the answers to our questions. He kept a good pace, stopped when we need a gelato break (it was 95 degrees that day), then a pastry beak, even when I ran into a store for a quick souvenir. He took us to some gorgeous hidden gems. We were all mesmerized and impressed. Even my 16yr old said it was fun and that is high praise!! When we got home I kept saying how I was impressed how Gaetano knew everything about everything! My parents have guests often and usually lands in them to be the tourist guides, but they don't always want to see Quatra Canti for the 19th time. Gaetano will be recommended to all! When in come back next, he will also be seeing me again! Manny from Go Ask A Local was very helpful at coordinating everything. Great service. Great tour and guide. I only wish I had done several tours with Gaetano while there.
